Retractors And Fishing
from:If you've never had a retractor before they are something that you need to look in to. A retractor is simply a small device that you attach your lightweight and heavily used fishing gear to. Then, this gear hangs off of your vest, shirt, or pants, waiting to be used. When it's needed, the gear is used, and then simply released, and it "zips" back into place! The convenience that retractors provide is unmatched.
If there is something that you use a lot while fishing, such as hemostats, attach them to a retractor and they hang on your vest, waiting to be used. Then after removing a hook from a fishes mouth, simply release the hemostats and zip they're right back where they were to begin with. This saves time that used to be spent digging through your pockets looking for things.
Another great aspect of retractors is that they give you the ability to use equipment that you should use, but don’t. The first thing that comes to my mind is a pair of nail clippers. None of us should be biting our line in order to cut it, but with a pair of nail clippers attached to a retractor, this problem is solved. Now you can simply grab your nail clippers, use them to snip the fishing line, release them and forget about them. They will be there when you need them.
The bottom line is that if you're anything like me and spend time fishing in the lowing water of a river or stream and need access to equipment in your fishing vest all the time, retractors are a necessity. Retractors help you keep lightweight equipment right there where it's needed. The amount of time a retractor will save you, will pay for itself in one fishing trip, no matter what you pay for it? If you fish, you need a couple of retractors, there's no doubt about that.
